HydroSal™
HydroSal™ technology is a unique controlled release system consisting of nano and submicron spheres that are loaded with functional ingredients. The technology is available for water (HydroSal™ 1) or hydro alcoholic (HydroSal™ 2) compatible systems.

Encapsulation of functional ingredients within HydroSal™ offers multiple benefits including stability, suspendability, compatibility, extended release, and triggered release. HydroSal™ technology permits encapsulation of various functional ingredients including fragrances, sunscreens, moisturizing, anti bacterial, fungicide, pharmaceuticals and other actives at high pay loads (such of 50%).
The active ingredients are infused within the polymeric sphere in production. The typical load of the active is 50% of the total dry wt.
Upon application, the surface is dried out due to the evaporation of the solvent medium, either water or water mixed with alcohol (hydro-alcoholic). During this time, evaporation casts a thin film around the sphere to complete the encapsulation. This film seals the sphere while entrapping the active within the sphere. The film's properties and its interaction with the active and with the environment become the major factor in controlling the release of the active to the surrounding environment.
The enclosing polymeric film may reduce the evaporation by 100 times compared to natural evaporation, and reduce liquid diffusion by 10 times, depending on the active, environment, and polymers used. The film functions as a barrier system, thus controlling the release by diffusion. In other situations, when the polymer is water sensitive (i.e. soluble), the polymetric film can be totally dissolved to allow for a burst release and enhanced depletion of the entrapped active.
HydroSalTM Effectiveness:
HydroSal™ can be loaded with both anhydrous and water based ingredients, however affinity for anhydrous applications is 100 times greater than that of the hydrophilic. Salvona can reconstruct the spheres to better accommodate ingredients of different properties.

2. Retention of Freshness: Headspace analytical measurements

The data shows that the fragrances encapsulated in HydroSal™ after a three hour application all have a higher amount of fragrance compared to the control in the headspace, indicating that the release of the fragrance can be modulated to last longer.
