MultiSal™

Multi Component Delivery System

MultiSal™ is a free flowing powder of microspheres with high concentrations of encapsulated functional ingredients. This unique technology provides many benefits over free ingredients, such as: improved stability; shelf life; local targeting; and long-lasting release of actives. MultiSal™ is used to encapsulate drugs, essential oils, flavors, fragrances, skin treatments and anti-aging ingredients. Additionally, MultiSal™ enables one to control the release of multiple ingredients in a consecutive manner resulting in a longer lasting release and more potent product.

Structure

MultiSal™ consists of solid hydrophobic nano or sub-micron spheres encapsulated in solid microspheres. MultiSal™ can be utilized to encapsulate multiple ingredients in the same carrier system and release them, one after the other, in a sequential manner, or alternatively, the same ingredient for a longer lasting release. MultiSal™ can also be utilized for site-specific targeted controlled release of active ingredients, such as pharmaceuticals, onto certain regions of the gastrointestinal tract (G-I) including the stomach and the small intestine.

Micro Sphere Technology


Characteristics

•Size: Micro spheres with a average diameter of 15-60 microns.
•Purpose: Seal volatile ingredients; transform liquid into solid, yielding a safe and more stabile product.
•Composition: Natural, natural modified, synthetic, and polymers blends.
Release: Triggered and modulated by water or pH change.

The following are examples of commercial uses of MultiSal in final products:

1). MultiSal
-Fresh Fragrance in a Deodorant Stick
The MultiSal™ functions as a fragrance delivery system to enhance the Fresh Fragrance. Note the release is modulated by body moisture.

2). MultiSal™ Flavor/Cooling, a product for anhydrous formulations.



MultiSal™ can deliver multiple flavors and provide multi-sensorial effects by encapsulating multiple flavors or other sensory markers in NanoSal™ and than encapsulating them into MultiSal™. For example, MultiSal™ Flavor/Cooling in a lip balm makes the lips taste fruity upon application, which is followed by a sustained cooling sensation that can last for 30 min or up to an hour by simply wetting the lips.

This technology is also useful to provide combinations of very different flavors, such as sweet and sour.






The DSC shows Tm (melting point of NanoSal
™ is at 60 degress Celsius). Although the NanoSal™ spheres are melting at 60 degrees Celsius, they do not release their encapsulated flavor. Only when the microspheres approach 160 degrees Celsius does the capsule break and release its contents.



The graph suggests that products formulated with flavors encapsulated in MultiSal™ are stable at a temp of 160 degrees Celsius, making them suitable for baking temperatures. Upon the breakdown of the microspheres at Tg, (Glass transition) the release of the flavor (as measure by wt loss) is accelerated upon the full depletion of the microspheres.
