DermaSal™

The invisible, water soluble patch – DermaSal™ is a proprietary technology of Salvona in which active ingredients are incorporated into a polymeric matrix in a free or encapsulated form. The matrix is thin and flexible enough to conform to body contours. Upon contact with any wetted mucosal or skin surfaces, the matrix adheres, disintegrates, and then releases the embedded active. A customized and accurate dose of active may be selected by applying an appropriate size of the patch. The use of adhesive is not necessary and hence minimizes the risk of allergic reaction or irritation upon patch application to already traumatized topical surfaces.

In addition to applying on healthy skin tissue, the patch can be applied on an opened wound or exposed body part. Multiple types of pharmaceutical actives may be incorporated into the patch, examples include, but not limited to anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, local anesthetics, and tissue growth factors.

Furthermore, the active can be encapsulated into nanospheres prior to dispersion into the patch matrix resulting in a further prolongation of therapeutic effect and improved bioadhesive effect.

Upon the application of the patch to skin, the water soluble polymer matrix disintegrates and forms a film on skin corrugations. The unencapsulated active ingredient provides an immediate action and the nanosphere encapsulated active ingredient adheres to skin and is slowly released as the encapsulation shell erodes.

Patch Things Up

DermaSal™ can deliver cosmetic, dermatological, and pharmaceutical ingredients onto the skin, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands. DermaSal™ can be utilized for both dermal and transdermal delivery.

Water absorbtion softens DermaSal™, thus eliminating any foreign body sensation. Depending on the amount of water used the DermaSal™ patch can dissolve, or disintegrate, providing a therapeutic layer of continuous treatment. The patch can be translucent or invisible.

Ease of Use

DermaSal™ patches can be applied to skin easily by wetting the patch or the targeted site. The patch becomes tack-like when wet and adheres onto the skin. The adhesive properties of DermaSal™ maintain the patch in place on the skin for the treatment period while allowing the patch to be readily removed without causing skin irritation. Unlike traditional patches, no adhesive residue remains on the skin after removal. DermaSal™ provides controlled delivery and protection to the treatment site. The patch can be removed simply by rinsing the area with water.
