"A controlled release system disclosed in a Salvona patent is substantially free-flowing powder formed of the solid hydrophobic nanospheres encapsulated in moisture-sensitive microspheres. The ingredients of the microsphere are released when the system is exposed to moisture, allowing a prolonged release of the actives encapsulated in the nanospheres. NanoSal™ Color Guard Tested Effective
Product effectiveness tests were performed on NanoSal™ Color Guard versus the free Vitamin E Acetate. Color intensity was evaluated every week and pictures were taken at the end of the study. NanoSal™ Color Guard showed a superior anti-fading effect after 15 washes ( 5 weeks) compared to the control sample. Salvona has recently been granted a new patent, USP #7,115,282, adding the capability to deliver sensory markers such as fragrance, flavors, and cooling agents with special features to further enhance product performance. The patent is titled: "Multi component controlled release system for anhydrous cosmetic compositions".
The present invention relates to a micro-sphere, controlled release delivery system, that can be incorporated into cosmetic and general topical formulations and can encapsulate different types of sensory markers such as: fragrances, flavors, active and functional ingredients, or combinations of the above within the same micro-spheres. The uniqueness of this technology is that all the functional ingredients are encapsulated in different and separate compartments within the spheres, so that the release of each ingredient is controlled, or synchronized to generate unique sensation features. The technology permits the release of one ingredient after another, creating a consequential release of events. For example, the release of flavor followed by cooling; warming followed by cooling; sweet followed by sour; etc.
The controlled delivery system of the aforementioned invention is marketed under the name of MultiSal™ and is available in free-flowing white powder formed of micro-spheres with an average diameter of 30 microns. The micro-spheres are packed with nano and sub-micron-spheres that are infused with the functional ingredients. The micro-spheres can be loaded with a variety of sub-micron spheres that are preloaded with different functional ingredients. The average diameter of the submicron spheres is 0.1 micron.
The mechanism of release of the encapsulated nano/sub-micron-spheres is based on the properties of the polymers used to form the micro-spheres, and can be triggered by either moisture or change in pH. The design of the system allows for an immediate release, within 2 minutes, or alternatively, a long lasting and sustained release that can be effective for several hours. (as much as 12 hrs.)
The functional or active ingredients are encapsulated in the nano/sub micron-spheres, and can be released only upon breakdown of the micro-sphere's structure. Therefore, the consumer can perceive the encapsulated active only after the activation and gradual dissolution of the micro-spheres. In addition, the design allows for the encapsulation of functional ingredients in the wall structure of the micro spheres. As the walls of the micro-spheres degrade, the first functional ingredient is released. The following ingredients would then release from the sub-micron spheres embedded within the microsphere.
The technology is also used for functional ingredients. The major use is for exfoliating agents that require a sustained release kinetic to reduce side effects such as irritation caused by alpha and beta hydroxide acid, retinol, etc. Salvona has introduced 3 types of delivery systems with Salicylic Acid, (MultiSal™ Salicylic Acid 10, MultiSal™SAL20 and MultiSal™ Salicylic Acid 30). Other applications include, MultiSal™ SalSorb™, is a natural deodorizing agent which absorbs excess moisture from the skin, and is used to enhance the performance of color cosmetics.
MultiSal™ is dispersed in anhydrous formulations such as lip balms, deodorant sticks, or other color cosmetics and can also be incorporated in some emulsion-based products.

Salvona in the new with cutting edge Medial Technology:
Salvona Technologies Inc. participated in the development of a new device for examining a body lumen, USP #7,083,578 .
The patent is assigned to Given Imaging Ltd. (Yoqneam, IL).
Salvona developed a biodegradable unit that is used as an in-vivo examining device of abnormally configured lumen.
The technology permits the device to pass freely through a body lumen even if it is abnormally configured, through the use of biodegradable materials developed by Salvona Technologies Inc. This is another commercial product Salvona has developed based on it's capabilities in designing biodegradable matrices for medical and diagnostic device applications. This basic technology, controlled biodegradable devices, is available for licensing for various other applications where a biodegradable matrix can be used in providing mechanical and functional properties as well as delivery of drugs and other functional ingredients over a long period of time. WATER ABSORPTION STUDY
Water absorption of SalSorb™was studied and compared to 3 commercial super absorbent products used in the market for personal care. In each case, 0.5 grams of the powder was placed in a test tube, followed by the gradual addition of water until the water formed a layer on top of the powder to indicate saturation.
