Our Technologies

Salvona has developed several controlled-release delivery systems for use in industries involving health care, personal care, food and beverage, fabric and household, and recently added agricultural products. Below is a short description of Salvona's current core technologies:

Microsphere Systems

  • SalSeal™ - Microspheres in dry, powdered form that retain and stabilize ingredients that are volatile and sensative to oxidation. The rate and onset of release of the encapsulated functional ingredient are triggered by the presence of water or pH changes. SalSeal™ products exhibit high thermal mechanical stability and are recommended for use in dry or low water content environments.
  • MicroSal™ - Dry, powdered, hydrophobic (fat, wax, oils, water in-soluble polymers etc.) microspheres that are used in powder or liquid formulations for long-lasting release. The release is controlled by the diffusion of encapsulated functional ingredient through the polymeric matrix and triggered by heat.

Sub-micron Sphere Systems

  • SalSphere™ - Consists of sub-micron particles ranging in size from 0.1 to 5 microns. This technology was designed specifically for the cosmetic and personal care industries. SalSphere™, with properties similar to NanoSal™, is not defined as nanotechnology per the FDA due to its larger particle size range (over 0.1 microns).
  • NanoSal™ - Hydrophobic spheres (particle diameter in nanometer range; 0.01 to 1 micron) for long-lasting release of functional ingredients in aqueous systems, such as suspensions, creams, and gels. The unique feature is the ability of NanoSal™ to adhere to surfaces (skin, hair, mucosa) from rinse-off applications. The NanoSal™ system, in a dispersion format, can be used in water-based products. The release is controlled by diffusion partition into the lipid intercellular phase and enzymetic degradation.
  • HydroSal™ - Spheres suspended in water and in hydro-alcoholic environments, ideal for spray, water-based, alcoholic and gel products. HydroSal™ provides longer lasting effects and in some cases water triggered release. The release rate is controlled by the choice of polymers used to construct the system.

Complex Systems

  • MultiSal™ - Water-sensitive microspheres containing hydrophobic nanoparticles for targeted, heat-triggered, or pH-triggered release. Product formulated with MultiSal™ may have enhanced bioavailability. The microspheres may contain nanospheres (NanoSal™) loaded with one or various functional ingredients and be adjusted to release one functional ingredient following another. MultiSal™ is also a way to transport NanoSal™ in a dry form.
  • DermaSal™ - Invisible, body contour conformable patches for release of functional ingredients onto the skin. Upon application, the patch provides a substantive therapeutic layer to the treatment site over an extended period of time. DermaSal™ provides a more aesthetically pleasing, more comfortable and less obtrusive topical patch for the delivery of cosmetic, dermatological, and pharmaceutical active ingredients onto the skin.
  • MatrixSal™ - A technology platform consisting of a matrix composition for controlling the lag time and release rate of pharmaceutical and other active ingredients through surface dissolution and/or bulk erosion. The matrix compositions can be formed into microspheres, nanospheres, articles, tablets, or used as a carrier for a device. The MatrixSal™ articles can be further coated to achieve pH responsive release and then sustained release upon reaching a suitable pH environment.
